Article 370 inspired by true events engages the audience into the complex and controversial
history of Article 370. This article granted the state of Jammu & Kashmir a special status. The
movie takes viewers on a journey through political intrigue and the nuances of events that lead to
the nullification of Article 370. However, the film turned out to be a dilution of facts and fiction. The
right wing narrative of JL Nehru ruining Kashmir and Maharaja Hari Singh’s words of leaning and
inclination becomes too obvious before the general elections. To be honest, Uri which came in
2019 with the same director(Aditya Dhar) was a better cinematic experience than what envisioned
in this one! It neither injects patriotism nor a marking effect!
Plot
The film follows the journey of Zooni Haksar (Yami Gautam) a local agent from Kashmir and how
after 2016 Kashmir unrest, she is chosen for secret mission by Rajeshwari Swaminathan
(Priyamani) from the Prime Minister’s Office(PMO) to end terrorism and conflict economy by doing
the absolute impossible abrogating Article 370 without bloodshed in the valley.
Performance
Yami Gautam delivers a commendable performance, showcasing determination and dedication.
The direction of the scene depicting the Pulwama attack martyr memorial service could have been
improved. Additionally, it seemed the sidelining of other officials involved in the PMO, made the
portrayal somewhat unbalanced. The actors portraying those characters could have delivered a
more impactful performance. It looked caricatured.
In summary, it is a well-crafted film that balances action, somewhere factious storytelling but
devoid of unnecessary melodrama. Yami Gautam’s powerpack performance, making it a
worthwhile watch. The movie sheds light on historical events that continue to shape our nation’s
destiny.
